Communal urban gardening and learning about the environment in Latvia
In the Latvian project Kopienas dārzs Liepāja (Community garden Liepāja) an urban community garden is created where any interested person can plant a plant and get acquainted with the basic rules of an ecological lifestyle at various events. The project is financed by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway through the European Economic Area and Norway’s grant program ‘Active Citizens Fund’.
Sustainable development of Latvia
The gardening project falls under the NGO Radi Vidi Pats, which aims to promote the sustainable development of Latvian society. It engages in cultural and environmental education by encouraging lifelong learning of young people and adults and participation in social processes. The association has also become involved in democracy-promoting projects and activities. They care about an inclusive and open society in Liepāja (Latvia) and are concerned with creations in which anyone can participate.
Inclusive urban space
This initiative does not directly target any vulnerable groups, but rather creates a green, open, and socially inclusive urban environment and community garden for anyone to take part in. The project is also valuable due to its organisation of educational programs about the environment and promotion of social activity.
