Cycling towards sustainable mobility
Vël’Ok is a free, self-service bicycle-sharing initiative based in Luxembourg. With the support of the Centre d’Initiative et de Gestion Local (CIGL) Esch-sur-Alzette, the project promotes sustainable mobility across several municipalities, including Esch-sur-Alzette, Bettembourg, Differdange, and Dudelange. It aims to make cycling an accessible, environmentally friendly transport option for all.
Free, easy access to cycling
The project allows anyone aged 14 and above to use bikes free of charge through the mKaart card system. In collaboration with local authorities and partners, Vël’Ok ensures bikes are readily available at various terminals across the region. This initiative supports residents, tourists, and workers by offering an eco-friendly alternative to traditional transport.
Promoting inclusivity and sustainability
Vël’Ok serves a broad audience, including individuals from diverse social backgrounds. By making bikes available for free, the project reduces mobility barriers and encourages sustainable transport, helping to reduce urban traffic congestion and carbon emissions. The project has experienced significant growth in usage, with figures doubling from 2018 to 2021, particularly in the southern municipalities.
